Gravity Falls
Ever take a trip in the middle of dead-butt nowhere, Oregon? Ever seen a bumper sticker that reads "Mystery Shack"?

Gravity Falls is a 2012 mystery & comedy cartoon created by Alex Hirsch, whom is a famous creator and voice actor among many other shows. Mabel and Dipper Pines, 12 year old twins of the Pines family, are sent to their Great Uncle (Grunkle) Stan's cabin located in Gravity Falls, Oregon for the summer. While they are skeptical of their Grunkle Stan's intentions and ability to be trusted, they eventually warm up to him and have many close moments with him.

In the first episode of Gravity Falls, Dipper finds a mysterious, dusty, beat-up journal in a secret compartment located in the forest. The journal contains a 6-fingered hand symbol, marked with the number "3" in the center. This journal is used by the Pines throughout the duration of season 1 and half of season 2 to uncover and study mysteries, and be used as a guide when challenged with the unknown.

Meet some characters!

Mabel Pines

Mabel Pines, the twin sister of Dipper Pines, is a 12-year-old girl from Piedmont, California, who came with her brother to Gravity Falls to stay with their great uncle for the summer. She is portrayed as a joyful, sparkly, pink bundle of joy, who's #1 goal in life seems to be making everyound around her happy. Her favorite things in life include sweaters, her pet pig Waddles, family, and Mabel Juice! (I highly don't recommend trying it.) Mabel is definitely the sweet tooth of the family, and carries a smile and glow everywhere she goes! She also really enjoys fashion and coming up with new sweater designs; sometimes even gifting them to others. Even during Weirdmageddon, she kept her positive attitude as best as she could. She is the "shooting star" of Bill's zodiac and is referred to as such by Bill Cipher. She goes on to be a key main character in the show.

Fun fact: Mabel has shown multiple hints at being queer inclusive. I mean, why wouldn't she be? Her scrapbook has a shooting star displaying the bisexual pride flag. She also wears a rainbow sweater in the episode The Love God, which was confirmed to be a symbol of queer inclusiveness in the love-centered episode.

Dipper Pines

Dipper Pines, twin brother of Mabel Pines, is a ball of energy in his own ways. Coming to Gravity Falls, he had one thing in mind; exploring the mysteries of the town and forests. Throughout the show, he uses the journal he located in episode 1 to help navigate and learn of the secrets that lurked in the sleepy town. He's pretty anxious, high-alert, but always itching for a new myserty to uncover; and is quite intelligent for a 12-year-old. When meeting the author of the journals, he found another idol he looked up to and aspired to be. Dipper's thirst for adventure and knowledge shapes his character and is an essential asset to who he is! He gets his nickname from the Little Dipper-shaped birthmark on his head, though his real name is Mason. He is the "pine tree" of Bill's zodiac, and is called such by Bill Cipher.

Fun fact: Dipper is based off of Alex Hirsch as a kid; Mabel was also based off of Alex's twin sister! Gravity Falls was inspired originally by the childhood of Alex and his sister. An official (but apparently non canon) doodle of Dipper's old design resembles very closely how Alex Hirsch looks as an adult!

Stanley "Grunkle Stan" Pines

Stan Pines is a old conman assumed to be in his late 50's, and is owner and founder of the tourist trap, "The Mystery Shack." He is also the great uncle (or "grunkle") of Dipper and Mabel. His ability to lie and cheat his way into fortune roots deep from the teachings and harmful mindsets his father, Filbrick Pines, had instilled into him. It may seem as if all he cares for is money, but in reality, he cares deeply for his family as well. The kids may have resented him at first, but he proves to be a loving family figure who would sacrifice a lot to save them.
